Breaking News: Bills’ OC Joe Brady Withdraws from Saints Head Coach Race Amid Super Bowl Chase!
- Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator Joe Brady has decided to withdraw from the race for the New Orleans Saints’ head coaching job, according to sources. This move comes as the Bills prepare for their upcoming AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs, putting them one game away from their first Super Bowl appearance since 1993.
Brady, 35, had previously interviewed with the Saints but has chosen to stay in his role as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator for the 2025 season. This marks his first full season in the role after stepping in on an interim basis in 2023 when Ken Dorsey was fired. Brady originally joined the Bills as their quarterbacks coach in 2022, following his tenure as the Carolina Panthers’ offensive coordinator in 2020 and 2021.
Quarterback Josh Allen has praised Brady for his positive influence on the team, describing him as energetic and highly motivating. Allen credited Brady for his seamless transition into the role midseason in 2023, which led to significant improvements in the Bills’ offensive performance. Under Brady’s guidance, Allen has had one of his best seasons, and the Bills have established a formidable rushing attack. They lead the NFL in fewest turnovers (8) and sacks allowed (14) this season while setting franchise records for points scored (525) and touchdowns (65) in a single season. The Bills have also scored 30 or more points in 12 regular-season games, the most in team history.
Brady has previous ties to the Saints, having worked as an offensive assistant for the team in 2017 and 2018. He also served as LSU’s passing game coordinator during their national championship run in 2019. In addition to his Saints interview, Brady had interviewed for the head coaching positions with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears.
The Saints remain the only NFL team with a head coaching vacancy, and Brady is not the first candidate to withdraw from consideration. Former Saints assistant Aaron Glenn also declined to pursue the job after accepting the head coaching position with the New York Jets. The Saints have conducted interviews with other candidates, including Anthony Weaver and Mike Kafka, and may schedule second interviews with other potential hires like New Orleans special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi and former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.
