The bill is named in memory of Ollie, a labradoodle who tragically lost his life in 2020 after being attacked by several other dogs at a doggie daycare in East Longmeadow. His death spurred the push for stronger regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Ollie’s Law mandates that all kennels and daycare centers for pets must be licensed by the state, and they are now required to maintain minimum staffing levels to ensure adequate supervision. Originally filed in 2021, the bill gained Support from animal welfare advocates and lawmakers, culminating in its passage.
The signing ceremony had a fitting touch, as a group of dogs was present to witness Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey officially sign the bill into law.
