With the exception of the Trouba scandal, the Rangers signed Ruhwedel to a two-way contract in order to provide the greatest possible degree of mobility. After being acquired at the deadline, Ruhwedel played for both the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Rangers throughout the course of the next season. During his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, he participated in a total of 52 games, during which he scored all of his points, one goal, and three assists. Ruhwedel is a fantastic signing for depth and will be a great alternative in the event that any injuries or issues arise during the regular season.

Both of these things are important. Due to the fact that there has been little public news regarding any prospective deal involving Trouba, with the exception of an unauthorized rumor involving the Buffalo Sabres, it is safe to assume that the Rangers will be re-running it with the majority of the same roster.

Although the one potential drawback of this move is that it would make it more difficult for Zac Jones to get some genuine ice time this season, it is important to note that competition among players for roster positions is never an objectively negative consequence.
