The New York Jets activated veteran safety Chuck Clark as part of their final roster move before Sunday’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
In order for the Jets to have him suit up for the game, they had to activate him on Saturday afternoon.
In order to create place for Clark, the New York Mets (3-7) released offensive tackle Alec Lindstrom and promoted practice squad kicker Anders Carlson.
The return of Clark was anticipated on Sunday, as confirmed on Friday by interim coach Jeff Ulbrich. After the veteran safety’s high ankle sprain in the Oct. 14 game against Buffalo, New York put him on injured reserve. Without him in the lineup, the Jets went 1-3.
He was included on the final injury report without a designation, but he practiced all week.
This season, players typically require at least one week to get ready to return from injury rest, but Clark defies that tendency. Once activated, players have a 21-day practice window to prepare for action while still on IR.
After suffering a hamstring injury earlier in the season, defensive tackle Leki Fotu required two weeks to get back into game shape.
He has a total of 32 tackles, 17 of which are solo efforts, along with a sack, a quarterback hit, and a tackle for loss in just six games this season. He has also recovered a fumble that he caused. Clark’s starting status is uncertain. Ashtyn Davis and Tony Adams are listed as the starting safeties on the Jets’ unofficial depth chart.
After missing the whole 2018 season due to an ACL tear, the Jets acquired Clark in a trade in early 2023.
For the Jets’ practice squad, Carlson joined on November 7. For the fourth week in a row, he’ll be the Jets’ kicker. After the Kansas City Chiefs signed Spencer Shrader off the Jets’ practice squad, New York lost him as their kicker from last week.
Riley Patterson, who came in for the injured Greg Zuerlein, was the Jets’ go-to quarterback before Shrader.
Carlson kicked field goals (81% of the time) and extra points (87% of the time) in his debut season with the Packers last year. Earlier this season, he was an injury replacement for the 49ers and kicked all five field goals, including a 55-yarder.
On October 31, New York added Lindstrom to the Jets’ active roster. He played his debut year on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad after signing with the team in 2022 as an undrafted free agent after graduating from Boston College. Along with his stint in training camp with the Los Angeles Rams, he also spent time in January 2024 with the UFL’s Memphis Showboats. Relative of Chris Lindstrom, a two-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman for the Falcons, he is Chris’s younger brother.
