Obviously, Mayer has been absent from the squad since Week 4 due to a personal matter. Since the specifics of the problem have remained unknown, rumors have circulated that Mayer is dissatisfied with the team because of his limited position following the signing of star tight end Brock Bowers.
Mayer was selected by Las Vegas in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. However, according to several sources, his absence had nothing to do with that. Instead, his family informed the organization that he was struggling with a condition that has plagued him in the past.

Seems like Mayer is doing better now that he’s back with the club, so that’s fantastic news. The 23-year-old’s status for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, or whether he’ll require additional time to recover from his lengthy layoff, is an intriguing one.
Although Mayer is not yet on the active roster due to an illness, he has missed the required four games and can be activated at any time.
Only four receptions for twenty-one yards and no scores have gone to Mayer in three games. The sample size may be modest, but Mayer has noticed a decline in opportunities, measured in snaps and targets.
Although Mayer appeared to be the Raiders’ long-term answer at the position in 2023, he has only played in 56% of the team’s snaps this year, down from 71%.
At the same time, without Mayer, Bowers has blossomed into one of the NFL’s top tight ends. It will be challenging, but we’ll watch how the Raiders try to include Mayer more.
