Finally, Anthony Richardson is still being considered by the Indianapolis Colts.

Richardson was named the starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets by Colts head coach Shane Steichen on Wednesday. According to Steichen, the intention of Richardson’s benching was for the former first-round choice to focus more intently on his work, and the Colts believe he has accomplished just that.

Steichen explained Richardson’s benching in Week 9 by saying the Colts had the best chance of winning with Flacco starting. The coach gave the impression that Flacco could keep his starting job for the remainder of the season, and if the 39-year-old had performed adequately, he probably would have.

A 30–20 defeat to the Buffalo Bills occurred last Sunday, and Flacco was the quarterback who threw three interceptions. Even more so after throwing an interception in Week 9’s defeat to the Minnesota Vikings, Steichen has a hard time finding a good reason to start Flacco instead of Richardson, who may use more playing time.

During his two years in the NFL, Richardson has started ten games. His completion percentage for the year is 44.4%, while his career total is 50.2%. The former Florida standout took heat for missing a key play in Week 8 when he substituted himself in. Richardson erred when he acknowledged that he removed himself from the 23-20 defeat to the Houston Texans on the grounds that he was “tired.”

Whatever the case may be, the Colts are still interested in evaluating Richardson. He has struggled mightily in his first two NFL seasons, but he is still young (22 years old) and has so much more potential than Flacco.
