Breaking: Dallas is focusing on signing restricted free agent Thomas Harley.
A number of players will not be re-signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs as the team retools its roster in an effort to increase its playoff chances. There is now at least one slot available on the Stars’ blue line, since only Brendan Smith, Ilya Lyubushkin, and Matt Dumba have been added. With more than $7.1 million at its disposal, Dallas is focusing on signing restricted free agent Thomas Harley. Nick Robertson, Jason’s younger brother and an established star in Dallas, may find the ideal suitor in the Leafs.
Since joining the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2019, Robertson has appeared in 87 NHL games, scoring 17 goals and accumulating 34 points. He was selected 53rd overall in the draft. He has never been able to establish himself in the Leafs’ offense-heavy lineup and has been sidelined multiple times owing to injury.
In order to trade Robertson, Dallas must first persuade Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving to consider the proposal. Robertson may be out of the Stars’ pricing range because of the Leafs’ high valuation on him. The amount of cap space that the Stars will need to utilize once Harley’s contract is determined is the second obstacle for Dallas. Robertson’s qualifying offer was less than $1 million, despite his listed value of $2.39 million on a three-year agreement.
Robertson would flourish in Dallas with his brother and the rest of the Stars’ quality and depth if he can maintain his health. As a result of Pavelski’s departure, the top line might undergo a shakeup, with Robertson’s brother taking his place.
