Breaking: Cleveland browns Hits with Another Major Setback as Fan Favorite QB Declines New Contract and Signs with Rivals…..Read more
Although everyone anticipated that Smith would be traded, there were a great number of other Browns players who may have been going in a different direction as well. Shelby Harris, David Njoku, Greg Newsome, Elijah Moore, and Dalvin Tomlinson are just a few of the names that come to mind.
Despite this, Cleveland made the decision to maintain its position for whatever reason.
It is abundantly clear that we are not familiar with all of the intricacies of trade debates. It is highly likely that Andrew Berry, the general manager of the Browns, was working the phones, and it is possible that he just did not like what he was hearing.
On the other hand, are you implying that no other clubs were willing to offer Cleveland anything of value in exchange for any of the players that could have been traded?
I would say that it is a failure.
Browns are only 2-7 at this point. Because they are not going anywhere this year, it is possible that it is time to come to terms with the idea that a quasi-rebuild is required.
Is it necessary for Cleveland to completely lose everything and make a trade for Myles Garrett? You would think that moving pieces like Newsome, Moore, and Tomlinson would have been very obvious moves that the Browns should have made, but that is not the case.
When the offseason was only getting started, Newsome was entangled in rumors and conjecture about potential trades. In the time since his arrival in 2023, Moore has not exactly won over the hearts of the club, and he is on his way to being a free agent. In spite of the fact that Tomlinson is a talented player, he is expected to earn $13 million in both 2025 and 2026 and is very replaceable.
At some point in time, Cleveland might have made a move in that area. Instead, the Browns made the decision to release Smith and call it quits for the season.
The trade of Amari Cooper by Cleveland a month ago appeared to be an indication that the team was going to undergo a significant change. However, it would appear that this was not the case.
When it comes to the specific dynamics of what took place in Berry’s office on Tuesday, no one is even aware of them. With that being stated, it is difficult to look at the decisions that the Browns made at the deadline and walk away feeling satisfied with what the club was able to achieve.
What would you say about a seventh-round pick and a fifth-round pick in return for Smith? Is it the best that Cleveland could bring about?
In some ways, it is not very impressive.
During the offseason, the Browns might have a rather ambitious strategy in place. Or perhaps they have just committed a serious error.
