A performance that contributed to the announcement that Steven Gerrard’s team is the archetypal giant-killers in continental play, with Feyenoord being just one of many scalps that ended up in Rangers’ magnificent collection.

On that particular evening in 2019, Allan McGregor, James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, and Glen Kamara were the ones who initiated these activities. There were six players who would go on to form the foundation of that remarkable Rangers team that would go on to shock Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig on their way to the Europa League final three years later.

In spite of the fact that the victory over Feyenoord marked the beginning of the European adventure for players such as Tavernier and Barisic, another of the players who excelled against the 16-time Eredivisie winners would never again achieve the same level of success.

Sheyi Ojo, an English forward for Glasgow Rangers, celebrates after scoring the first goal of the UEFA Europa League Group G football match between Range and Rangers.

This was supposed to be Ojo’s coming of age moment, as he had only been brought in on loan from Gerrard’s beloved Liverpool club just a few weeks previously. Instead, it established a standard that the well-traveled winger would not be able to meet for the remainder of his time with the Rangers.

Before the Glasgow giants decided against pursuit of a permanent agreement, he scored only four more goals before the decision was made.

In an interview with the Official Rangers podcast, Ojo stated, “It was a massive day, not only for me but for the players.” This statement was made after his explosion of a shot sent the Feyenoord net flying into the Clyde.
