This summer, Celtic needed to add a left back to their roster to challenge Greg Taylor. Taking Alex Valle on loan from FC Barcelona was their quick fix.

So far this season, Valle has failed to appear in any competitive games for FC Barcelona. In preseason, nevertheless, he contributed to Hansi Flick’s ideas and performed admirably.

Whether or not he makes the Celtic starting lineup this year is an open question. That won’t be a picnic, especially considering how well-prepared Taylor looks right now, maybe revitalised by the introduction of some competition following a couple of years as an assured starter.

In Scotland, Lewandowski witnessed firsthand the type of players that Valle could encounter. The Glasgow Times stated that he gave the following assessment of the 20-year-old’s performance this term:

It all comes down to the amount of playing time he gets, just like with every player. We at Barcelona are well aware that being prepared is crucial for every player who wants a chance to show what they can do on the field. Sometimes it’s not easy to play at the highest level.

I witnessed some technically proficient Scottish footballers on Thursday night. We were prepared for a challenging game. We value these three things because of that.

But we strive to do our best at all times. Plus, if we’re talking about the Scots, there are some seasoned pros out there. With a few promising young players who have already shown their intentions to join the squad.
At Celtic Park, we will witness Valle’s fate unfold. Obviously, his performance will be graded by the amount of playing time he receives.

Celtic have a lengthy season ahead of them, what with the Champions League prolongation and, one can only hope, a more robust Scottish League Cup run. When Taylor needs a break, Valle will likely see the field. His future with the squad is dependent on how he uses his time on the field. If everything goes according to plan, next summer he may be able to make Glasgow his permanent home.
