It seems like the Alvin Kamara to Denver Broncos dream has died.
The five-time Pro Bowl running back put an end to trade rumors leading up to next month’s NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, allegedly agreeing to a two-year, $24.5 million deal extension that keeps him with the New Orleans Saints through 2026.

In the weeks leading up to their Week 7 matchup, the Saints and the Broncos were rumored to be interested in drafting Kamara, who was drafted by Sean Payton in 2017 while he was coaching the Saints. Even though he only gained 10 yards on seven attempts in Denver’s 33-10 rout, the 29-year-old running back still got a big hug from Payton after the game.
As a result of this and Kamara’s comments in his locker last Thursday night, rumors began circulating that Payton could contact his longtime friend and Saints general manager Mickey Loomis to arrange for a meeting between his top players.
Yes, I understand. If Sean Payton wants to put a final stamp on his time with the Saints, he may be willing to let go of Kamara—even though he didn’t need him to beat his former team on Thursday—according to CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin, who wrote about the situation on October 17.
“The Broncos already have a committee backfield, leaning heavily on the run game, and Kamara’s pass-catching prowess would give rookie quarterback Bo Nix arguably his best safety valve yet.”
The Broncos may be short on proven talent, but Payton appears determined to ride the wave of success in a backfield that is always shifting. Javonte Williams, the incumbent starter, had his best game of the season against the Saints. He ran for 111 yards (6.3 yds per carry) and scored twice.
On Monday, Payton stated, “Hopefully that’s the identity of any championship team” in reference to the squad’s running game.
