ESPN: Indianapolis Colts seals deal ahead of five teams including Tennessee Titans for Vikings star in a $60 million acquisition……
Both the players and the coaches can benefit from taking a break during the bye week.
However, escaping is easier said than done for Shane Steichen, head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.
“I worked a good chunk of the week, but I did take some time with the family, hung out with my son and my daughter and my wife a little bit over the weekend – that part was good,” said Steichen. “But I’m working on them now and got a little head start on Denver last week.”
Because this week’s game against the Broncos is a must-win for the Colts, Steichen naturally wants to get a jump on his preparation. The Broncos presently hold the seventh and final AFC seed; a win would move the Colts within one game of that seed. The Colts’ postseason aspirations would be shattered with a loss.
Consequently, Steichen wasted no time during the bye week getting to work on the Broncos. There are a lot of obstacles to overcome when playing at Mile High’s Empower Field. Players need to adapt their bodies and playing styles to account for the high altitude.
“The ball carries pretty well,” Steichen remarked while laughing. Okay, kickers, the field goal lines are where they are, but obviously that gets pushed back a bit when the weather gets bad…. The same holds true for the trajectory of a football when thrown. Thus, in my opinion, the ball has a lot more carry. Obviously, we need to make sure the players are ready for the high altitude as well.
