Even though the Cleveland Guardians have been playing for some time now, we all did our best to ignore the fact that they are playing.

Despite the fact that it appeared to be an unbreakable lead in the AL Central, the lead gradually decreased. There was a time when the Guardians were nine games ahead of the Minnesota Twins in the division leading race.

A month and a half has passed since that time. With the passage of time, however, the Twins were able to chip away at their deficit more and more. All of this brings us to the present moment, where Cleveland’s advantage over Minnesota has almost completely vanished.

As a result of the Guardians’ defeat in the first two games of a four-game set against the Twins on Friday (the set consisted of a doubleheader), their lead in the American League Central has been reduced to one and a half games (with one game in the list of losses).

If Cleveland is unable to win these next two games against Minnesota, it will find itself in a situation that is completely foreign to it in the year 2024: playing the role of the hunter rather than the huntere.

Over the course of their most recent five-game winning streak, the Guardians had suffered seven consecutive defeats, despite the fact that it appeared as though they were finally beginning to build some separation.

During this span, Cleveland has experienced a string of misfortunes that are nearly impossible to fathom. But the Guardians aren’t making any hits. The quality of their starting pitchers has been awful. Their bullpen is beginning to show signs of cracking in the armor there.

The “big” trade deadline additions that they made, which included Lane Thomas and Alex Cobb, have not been successful so far. It was on Friday evening that Cobb made his debut with the Cleveland Indians. He pitched 4.2 innings and allowed four runs on nine hits.

The veteran right-handed pitcher was recovering from hip surgery and a shoulder issue when he made his first appearance since the previous year. In his defense, this was his first outing since 2012. However, it is possible that the Guardians should have made a deal for a player who has previously pitched in the year 2024.

What about Thomas, then? Will Brennan is being made to look and feel like Manny Ramirez by him. The former outfielder for the Washington Nationals has played in only ten games for Cleveland, and he has a batting average of.398 and a five-for-38 batting average.

A small number of samples? Indeed. Given that there are fewer than two months left in the regular season, is it concerning that the Guardians are losing their competitive advantage in their division? In addition, yeah.
We had been aware of Cleveland’s issues during the entire year.

The starting rotation that they have used has been among the worst in all of baseball, and their offense has been extremely uneven across the board. And now, in the midst of the intense competition for the pennant, it appears that all of those problems are coming to a head.

If the Twins were to win this series, the Guardians would be in a terrible position. Especially considering the terrible schedule of games that they have coming up after that, which includes two consecutive road series against the Milwaukee Brewers and the New York Yankees at the same time.

That Minnesota is clearly reaching its stride at the proper time is much more concerning for Cleveland than the fact that they are losing.

Take into consideration the fact that the Guardians have only managed to win 31 games since their 36-17 start. For nearly two months, they have been a team that has a record below.500. At this point, it is not merely a terrible stretch of the muscles.

It is a lengthy period of boring baseball that has the potential to finally derail a playoff run that appeared to be a sure thing earlier in the season. It’s time for the Guardians to start demonstrating a sense of urgency since the situation in Cleveland is currently out of control.

A short while ago, manager Stephen Vogt made an effort to look for the bright aspects of his team’s losing streak. Now that we have reached this point, it is time to stop looking for the bright side of things and start winning games.
