Quarterback Anthony Richardson of the Indianapolis Colts has been through a roller coaster of a season thus far in the NFL. On Sunday, in a closely contested matchup against the New England Patriots, the Colts prevailed 25-24 to improve to 6-7.

It was a showcase for Richardson’s ability to switch gears quickly. He rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown, as well as the game-winning dash for a two-point conversion, and completed just 12 of his 24 throws for 109 yards. He also threw for two touchdowns, including one to Alec Pierce in the final seconds.

Head coach Shane Steichen took notice of the second-year quarterback’s development after he was instrumental in the Colts’ most important victory of the season, especially considering that he was relegated to the role of backup quarterback to Joe Flacco just over a month ago.

Return the possession to him for some outer zone play. His performance today was just outstanding.

Throughout the game, Richardson was not at his best. The quarterback threw two interceptions, the first to Patriots receiver Christian Elliss at the conclusion of the first quarter and the second to Jets receiver Christian Gonzalez in the second half. Regardless of the setbacks, Steichen was pleased by the self-confidence of his young signal caller.

“Outstanding perseverance,” Steichen went on to say. He made a spectacular play on his first interception. Up he leaped and turned it over. He simply undercut the route on the subsequent one. Does it make sense to you? You gain knowledge from those. I mentioned before that it wasn’t dramatic. That is completely unimportant to me. In my opinion, he gave it his all. Indeed, he did.

There were echoes of his fourth-quarter rushing score against the New York Jets in Sunday’s game-winning drive, marking Richardson’s second strong performance in as many weeks. Steichen has noticed that the 2023 first-round pick is now more at ease, assured, and decisive in the Colts’ offense.

During his Monday media appearance, Steichen remarked, “I think it’s big any time you can have two touchdown game-winning drives for a young quarterback is huge.” His ability to evade the sacks and the pressure is phenomenal. Getting yourself ensnared in chains is something you should avoid. Impressively, he manages to break out of those pressure looks and generate… We need to maintain that portion because it has been fantastic.

With the Colts’ bye week finally here in Week 14, Richardson will finally receive some much-needed recuperation after a solid two-game stretch. Then, in an effort to get back to.500, the squad will travel to Denver to face the Broncos.
