For at least the upcoming month, the Dallas Cowboys will have quarterback uncertainty.

According to Cowboys VP Stephen Jones, who spoke with 105.3 The Fan on Friday, quarterback Dak Prescott will be out for at least four games due to a hamstring issue, and the team intends to put him on injured reserve. Jones also didn’t say that Prescott couldn’t sit out the remainder of the year.

“It’s probably no way he can be back in the four-week time frame, so we’ll put him [on injured reserve] and we’ll have that roster spot to use in terms of the next four weeks and go from there,” said Jones.

We will do what is best for Dak, even if it is a really difficult scenario to lose him for that long. Who knows if it will be four weeks, six weeks, or the entire season? Nobody seems to know either. Just keep an eye on it, and we’ll see where it leads.

Prescott ranked twenty-fourth in the NFL with a passer rating of 86.0 in eight games played this season. His passing totals included 1,978 yards, eleven touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Over the last 30 days, the Cowboys have lost three games in a row, including a rout of the Detroit Lions and two close losses to the 49ers and Falcons.

In order to maintain playoff aspirations, the Cowboys will now rely on their backup quarterback, Cooper Rush. Trey Lance, the former No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft who was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in August 2023, is now considered a third-string quarterback, according to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who made the announcement on Friday.

Dallas will have Prescott on staff until the 2028 season according to a four-year, $240 million contract deal he inked in September.

At Stadium, the Cowboys will face off in a divisional matchup with the other NFC East teams.
