Breaking News: Amy Adams Strunk owner of the Tennessee Titans have just been diagnosed with…..Read more
Just before the trade deadline, the Tennessee Titans sent linebacker Ernest Jones IV to the Seattle Seahawks and quarterback DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs.
By completing each deal, the Titans were able to gain one more Day 3 draft choice for the 2019 season. The Titans could have done more, but they were satisfied with what they accomplished, even though it was a respectable haul for a team in rebuilding.
However, was it the best choice?
Reportedly, defensive standouts Arden Key, Jeffery Simmons, and Sebastian Joseph-Day were interested in the Titans. Still, every one of those guys were retained by the Titans.
Regardless of their record, the Titans’ defense has been among the league’s best this season. If injuries weren’t a problem for the squad, they would probably be playing better. The decision to retain those guys rather than draft picks was not a terrible one and should not have been criticized.
If there were offensive players available for trade, we might never know. Ran Carthon, general manager of the Titans, should have known better than to try to estimate the market value of players like Tyler Boyd, a seasoned wide receiver, and Chig Okonkwo, a tight end. Yes. Is the team’s decision not to trade them a crucifixion? No.
Without Simmons, the returns probably wouldn’t have made much of a difference. Hopkins and Jones were satisfied with the movement, so they struck those deals.
Were the Titans unable to accomplish more? Definitely, but the squad shouldn’t stress out over such last-minute decisions to sit on their hands. Don’t get too worked up about things you can’t change.
