According to a report by Daniel Kramer of MLB.com, the Marlins are planning to hire Carson Vitale away from the Mariners in order to position him as the bench coach for the incoming manager Clayton McCullough.

Marlins To Hire Carson Vitale As Bench Coach

Vitale has been with Seattle for the past seven seasons, five of which have been spent in the role of playing field coordinator for the major league team.

Prior to joining the big league staff in 2020, Vitale, who is now 36 years old, served as the field coordinator for Seattle’s minor leagues. Prior to that, he worked for the Angels’ minor league system for a number of years as a hitting coach and manager. He also served as the international field coordinator for the Dodgers for two seasons, from 2016 to 2017.

The Rangers selected the product of Victoria, British Columbia in the 38th round of the draft in 2010 as a catcher out of Creighton University. He went on to play in the minor leagues for a portion of two seasons before deciding to pursue a career as a coach.

In terms of filling up its coaching staff, Miami has a long way to go before it is completely staffed. Immediately following Skip Schumaker’s dismissal as manager, the Marlins made significant changes to their entire coaching staff. McCullough’s hire has only been public for a fortnight at this point.

In addition, it has been suggested that Miami has recruited Pedro Guerrero, a former assistant hitting coach for the Giants, to serve as their new hitting coach. However, to this point, only Guerrero and Vitale have been known to be hired.

Vitale worked with both Kapler and McCullough in Los Angeles, and Guerrero was on Kapler’s coaching staff in San Francisco and Philadelphia when he managed the Giants and Phillies. Both coaches have connections to Gabe Kapler, who is the assistant general manager of the Marlins.
