Head coach Kevin O’Connell announced on Monday that Will Reichard and Andrew DePaola are both suffering with injuries following Sunday night’s victory over the Colts. Before missing two field goals in the second quarter against Indianapolis, Reichard had a flawless NFL career. Now he’s dealing with a quad injury. A hand injury has necessitated surgery for DePaola.

O’Connell did not have any new information regarding Reichard, but it appears like he may not be able to play in Sunday’s game against the Jaguars.

“We’re still in the process of evaluating that quad injury and I’ll keep you guys posted as we kinda solidify a timeline there and if we’re gonna need to possibly bring in some kickers to potentially take a look at,” said O’Connell. Maybe that will become clearer as the week goes on. I think we probably will.

According to the head coach of the Vikings, Reichard’s injury “was a contributing factor” to the rookie sensation missing both of his kicks — a 53-yarder and a 31-yarder — in the game against the Colts. Their assessment of his availability for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars, or the likelihood that he will miss at least one game altogether, will continue. Reichard is hoping he won’t have to go on injured reserve and miss at least four games.

An injury update from Kevin O’Connell on Christian Darrisaw, Will Reichard, and Andrew DePaola

Reichard had a season-high 34 for 34 on kicks before Sunday night’s game. He kept going nevertheless, and he scored three more points in the victory. In 2019, while Reichard was a freshman at Alabama, he hurt his quadriceps.

“It’s something where you would love to have him just continue on the fabulous trajectory he’s been on, really since he arrived here,” he added. “These things kinda come up, and we’ll go through the process here of making sure we put together the best plan so we have him (fully healthy) and doing what we was doing all season long, up until last night.”

Darren Wolfson of KSTP reports that the Vikings would likely bring in kickers for Tuesday’s practices. John Parker Romo, who spent the offseason with the Vikings before Reichard was hired, is one name that could be considered for that position.

The same holds true for the long-snapper position, as All-Pro DePaola may be headed to injured reserve after undergoing hand surgery.

“Andrew DePaola had a hand injury that will require a procedure to allow that thing to heal up, probably is looking like a short-term IR candidate, which we’ll need to potentially have a long snapper in the building,” said O’Connell.

This week, the Vikings’ punter Ryan Wright may have two new partners to work with.
