The New York Knicks’ performance this week was reminiscent of a bygone era in more ways than one.
In addition to a 116-107 win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday thanks to a classic Karl-Anthony Towns performance, the five-man metropolitan starting lineup accomplished an unprecedented feat. As pointed out by Sportsradar and Skylar Darel of MSG Networks, none of the five starters from the Big Apple had scored ten points in three straight games since March 2009.
Towns became the first New Yorker to score 40 points in his debut season with a 44–13–13 effort, spearheading the contemporary Knicks. Just behind him was Jalen Brunson, who managed to score 22 points despite a chilly first half. Half of his points came in the second half, and he hit half of his last 10.

Mikal Bridges matched for the team lead with 17 points, most of which came from three-pointers. The historic night was completed by OG Anunoby (11 points) and Josh Hart (10 points), who were both notable for their defense and rebounding, respectively. The Knicks went 7-3 in games where each of their five starters scored 10 points or more.
It was Wilson Chandler, Al Harrington, Larry Hughes, David Lee, and Nate Robinson who started for the Knicks in that previous game. They were a rebuilding squad while Mike D’Antoni was in charge, but the one Tom Thibodeau has put together now has loftier goals. The Knicks’ (2-2) first road win of the season came on Wednesday, marking the beginning of what New York hopes will be more monuments.
Friday night, as the Knicks open a four-game road trip in Detroit (7 p.m. ET, MSG), the top men will have an opportunity to make it four in a row, with five of them collecting at least ten.
