Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network reports that although Christian McCaffrey, the running back for the 49ers, will not participate in the game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, there is a possibility that he will play immediately after the bye week takes place.

“This actually might be the last game where Jordan Mason is the bell cow,” Rapoport stated to reporters. “The 49ers have a bye and Christian McCaffrey should start practicing, and there’s a very good chance that McCaffrey is on the field on 10 Nov. for the 49ers’ next game (against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers).”

It is readily apparent that the 49ers have high hopes that McCaffrey will be able to play in the game against the Buccaneers. When the players return from their bye week, it is anticipated that McCaffrey will begin practicing with the team. This is assuming that he does not experience any unexpected setbacks in the coming days.

The 49ers should therefore begin McCaffrey’s three-week practice window on Monday, November 4, according to this information. According to the rules, he is allowed to participate in team practices for a period of twenty-one days before the 49ers are required to either activate him from the Injured Reserve List or put an end to his season for good.

In the event that the 49ers intended to play McCaffrey against the Buccaneers in a couple of weeks, wouldn’t they have opened his practice window by this point? In the event that he is not yet prepared to engage in any kind of physical contact, will the 49ers make him participate in a game after only a few practices? After being so cautious with him over the course of the past three months, will they respond with such aggression?

Even once McCaffrey returns to the field, it appears that he will still be at risk of suffering a rupture of his Achilles tendon. Because of this, I believe the 49ers will continue to exercise caution with him. Since he would most likely miss the most of the following season if he were to tear his Achilles tendon at this late stage in the year.

The Buccaneers are a team that I would not be surprised to see him play against. It would seem more reasonable to play the Seahawks in Week 11 or the Packers in Week 12 during the season.
