As their wide receiver room works to get healthy, the Chiefs are elevating Washington to potentially help on special teams in Week 8.

The Kansas City Chiefs are bolstering their wide receiver corps in preparation for Sunday’s matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders, who have a number of injuries.

Reports indicate that Kansas City has activated wide receiver Montrell Washington for Week 8 via Standard Elevation, as stated by the team’s official X account.01jb4wpja8ecsknrfcd7 Breaking  News: “I know my worth” Patrick Mahomed is so upset with the comment made by his coach Andy Reid concerning his exit from the team and has announced  his departure due to…

Washington, who is 25 years old, is playing for the Chiefs for the second year in a row. The former fifth-round NFL Draft pick of the Denver Broncos has been actively involved with the organisation for the past year and a half, having originally signed with their practice squad in August of 2023. While he did not contribute offensively, Washington did play a role in Dave Toub’s special teams game in his six games played last season.

Washington returned a kickoff 20 yards and eight punts 61 yards in those six games. Coming from the practice squad, he provides special teams versatility, similar to Nikko Remigio, and is a competent alternative. Week 8 call-up considerations included fan favourite Justyn Ross, who entered the league in 2022 as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson. This week, Cornell Powell returned to the practice squad and was also considered.

Coming into their game against the Raiders, Kansas City is lacking a receiver. Skyy Moore is out for Week 8 due to a core muscle issue, while JuJu Smith-Schuster will sit out Week 8 while he recovers from a hamstring injury that prevented him from practicing. Toub may have had some say in the club’s choice to activate whomever was finally selected on Sunday, as head coach Andy Reid had previously stated his confidence in that player.

This weekend, Washington will be in the lineup with veterans DeAndre Hopkins, Justin Watson, Mecole Hardman, and youngster Xavier Worthy. Another familiar figure has joined the team to aid in the onboarding process and ensure Hopkins is as prepared as possible to play after a trade.
