UNC's Mack Brown reportedly makes big decision on future

As reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Brown has been conveying to folks in his immediate vicinity his intention to continue serving as the head coach at the University of North Carolina beyond the current season. This is a message that the 73-year-old veteran has sent to his staff, players, and those who are on the recruiting trail.

The University of North Carolina would, of course, want Brown to return. In spite of the fact that Brown is under contract until 2027, the institution has not yet issued any pronouncements to the public regarding his future.

Earlier in the season, Brown fuelled rumors that he could make a retirement announcement. After North Carolina’s loss to James Madison by a score of 70-50, the former national champion reportedly gave the players the impression that he was willing to leave the club if it would be in the best interest of the squad.

Brown later stated that he had no intention of retiring in the middle of the season and that he had been trying to hold himself accountable for an embarrassing loss. He did not deny making the comments, but he did say that he had expressed his intention to do so.

Despite the fact that the Tar Heels have since turned things around, the loss to James Madison marked the beginning of a four-game losing run for the University of North Carolina. Over the course of their most recent three matches, they have triumphed over Virginia, Florida State, and Wake Forest. With two games left to play against Boston College and North Carolina State, Brown’s squad currently has a record of 6-4.

Brown is currently in the sixth season of his second career at the University of North Carolina. Even though the Tar Heels have been unsuccessful in their last four bowl games, he has led them to bowl games every year.
