During the previous season, he was a candidate for Most Valuable Player. With a quarterback rating of 113, he had the highest rating in the NFL. He finished third in the league with 31 touchdown passes. In addition, his completion rate of 69.4 was the fourth highest. He was a handsome young man.
He has a quarterback rating of 91.2, which places him in 17th place, he has 9 touchdown passes, which is tied for 11th place, and his completion percentage of 63.9 places him in 22nd place. The quality is low throughout the board. His seven interceptions are tied for fourth place in the all-time list. It’s not good.
What is the reason behind the decline in Purdy’s numbers?
“I think last year was one of the best years, statistically, ever, when you look at just the efficiency of a whole offense,” said Kyle Shanahan, the head coach of the team. Therefore, I believe that it is difficult to do it on an annual basis.
That doesn’t help when you’re missing the most valuable player in the National Football League (really, offensive player of the year Christian McCaffrey), in my opinion. It does not help him that he is missing several receivers. However, I believe that Brock is having a phenomenal year, both statistically and otherwise.
It is possible that Purdy is having a fantastic year in Shananahan’s eyes, but this is not the case according to the statistics or the results column. As of seven games, Purdy is performing like a quarterback who is prone to turnovers and is only a.500 passer. Furthermore, he participated in the majority of those games alongside Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle.
Therefore, if that is the way that Purdy performs when McCaffrey is not on the field, then the 49ers should not grant Purdy a long-term extension because McCaffrey’s prime will not last much longer, if it hasn’t already expired.
It will be interesting to see whether Shanahan is able to get Purdy back on track this week when they play the Cowboys.
