Five-Star WR Deebo Samuel Sr Shocks 49ers with Decommitment, Flips Commitment to…
This season, the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive line hasn’t been particularly poor.
They may still benefit from some strengthening, though. The 49ers hoped it would be Jon Feliciano, an offensive guard with experience. He ended up maintaining a starting position at right guard and gave the 49ers an incredible seven starts when they needed them most last season.
Sadly, Feliciano received unsatisfactory news from the 49ers on Monday. Feliciano’s 2024 season would come to an end when Kyle Shanahan announced that he will not be reinstated from Injured Reserve. During training camp, Feliciano sustained a knee injury that led the 49ers to place him on Injured Reserve. He hasn’t been able to recover and would need surgery to fix the problem.
“Jon is going to stay on IR,” Shanahan stated on Monday during a conference call. “We just had a conversation with Knee here a little while ago, and he’s going to have to stay on IR because he hasn’t responded appropriately, which is unfortunate for Jon and us.”
Feliciano shared his viewpoint on social media. He even made a suggestion that he might resign. Right now, it seems inevitable that he will retire. Feliciano was battling injuries even when he was starting for a time. That’s why the 49ers had to start Spencer Burford at right guard after he missed the Super Bowl.
Feliciano would at least provide the 49ers with short-term stability, but he was never going to be the team’s long-term solution. The 49ers might have considered starting him at centre instead of Jake Brendel, who has been struggling lately, if he had returned.
The 49ers will now need to get by with the players they currently have. The offensive line is already having a difficult time. Due to an ankle injury, Trent Williams was unable to play against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. In the game, Aaron Banks, the starting left guard, also had a concussion.
The 49ers are suffering from a growing number of injuries, and no assistance is in sight. It is only making the franchise’s already chaotic 2024 regular season worse.
