Among quarterbacks projected to have a breakout year in the next draft, the Tigers’ passer stands out.

Like Kyler Murray in 2019 or Joe Burrow the next year, quarterback prospects can ascend from relative obscurity to the first round, and frequently even into the top five picks or perhaps the first overall. Even Baker Mayfield, who went undrafted in 2018 after finishing his final season at Oklahoma, was considered a late-round or early-draft pick in his final season before being selected first overall a few months later.

Garrett Nussmeier of LSU will be the quarterback in 2025, even though we’re over halfway through the 2024 college football season. From his time as a highly touted four-star recruit to his current role as the Tigers’ offense coordinator, this guy has come a long way in his time at the university. Among real quarterback prospects for 2025, he is now ranked second with an average depth of target (aDOT) of 10.2 yards, only behind Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, who has 10.5 yards.

Again, based on his performance in 2024, I am of the idea that Nussmeier will eventually get to the top, and therefore, he sneaks into the first round of this mock draft.
