SKOL: Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson is creating records we didn’t even know existed; everybody couldn’t wait to hug…..
On Monday, the Vikings announced that tight end Nick Muse has been waived. Re-signing to the practice squad is likely contingent upon his waiver status.
Making his return to action since Week 2, Muse—who was selected in the seventh round out of South Carolina in 2022—played in Sunday’s game in Chicago after being activated from injured reserve. He played in 16 special teams snaps and a career-high six offensive ones in the Vikings’ overtime victory.
Muse had a chance to shine in the role of third-string tight end since the Vikings were without Josh Oliver owing to an ankle ailment. In an ideal world, he would be the TE4 supporting T.J. Hockenson, Oliver, and Johnny Mundt. On the practice squad for the Vikings, you may find tight ends Sammis Reyes and Robert Tonyan.
With this trade, a roster spot becomes available for the Vikings. Although it is noteworthy that it occurred at the same time as Daniel Jones passed waivers, it is more like that OLB Gabriel Murphy will be activated from injured reserve to fill that position.
On Monday, Muse celebrated her 26th birthday. Just eight hours before he was dismissed, the Vikings celebrated his birthday on social media! (To be clear, they do a happy birthday post for every player, and waiving Muse to put him on the practice squad is just a procedural action to create roster space).
On Muse’s birthday, September 6, 2021, Muse noted on social media that the Raiders had cut his brother Tanner.
Panthers’ claim on Evans
On Monday, the Carolina Panthers claimed Akayleb Evans, a former Vikings cornerback who had been discarded on Saturday. He might see some playing time as the season winds down for the 3-8 Panthers.
The 2022 Missouri Tigers selected Evans in the fourth round. Before being cut to make place for Muse on the 53-man roster, he started two games as a rookie and fifteen games for the Vikings last year. However, he had dropped to at least fifth on the cornerback depth chart this season. Evans only saw action on defence once entire season, in the opening game. On special teams, he had also played in seven games.
Among the former Vikings draft picks who have since left the club are Evans, Andrew Booth Jr., Esezi Otomewo, and Vederian Lowe. The other five are either benchwarmers, rotational players, or backups: Muse, Ed Ingram, Brian Asamoah, Ty Chandler.
