Just In: 49ers’ Brock Purdy has heated conversation with Coach Kyle Shanahan as he’s removed from…….Read more

This is the live blog for the Week 3 away game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams. I want to regularly update this with news and commentary from the Rams press box.

11:55 George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Darrell Luter Jr., Tatum Bethune, Ben Bartch, and Joshua Dobbs are the 49ers’ inactive players.

11:56 Seeing how the 49ers run the ball with Kittle will be interesting to watch. Even though Christian McCaffrey is the finest running back in the NFL, as we’ve witnessed the last two weeks, they can still run the ball quite effectively without him. And the reason for that is that George Kittle is a top-tier blocking tight end, and Jordan Mason is also very good. Every running back benefits from having him at the point of attack. Mason’s running room might be reduced if Kittle doesn’t make space for him?

11:57 With Kittle and Deebo Samuel sidelined, it will be intriguing to watch how Kyle Shanahan divides targets in the passing game. As Brandon Aiyuk recently signed a contract extension worth $30 million per season, it is reasonable to assume he will step up and take the lead.

However, he persevered throughout the winter and might not be at his best physically just yet. Unlike Jauan Jennings, who has been locked in from the start of the playoffs the previous year. Today, I predict Jennings to lead the 49ers in targets and catches, with Aiyuk providing a complementary role. Because of how bad the Rams’ run defense is, I also anticipate that the 49ers will run the ball significantly more than they will throw it.

1:23 The Rams defer after winning the toss. The first kickoff will go to the 49ers.

Initially quarter

1:13.22 Brock Purdy fakes a pitch to Isaac Guerendo on first and ten from the Rams 13-yard line. He then quickly glances left to find Aiyuk, then back to the right to find a wide-open Jauan Jennings in the end zone. During that drive, Jordan Mason gained 31 yards from scrimmage on 5 touches.

Rams 0, 49ers 7.

1:17 When Nick Bosa overruns Matthew Stafford in the pocket on third and 2 from the Rams 38, Stafford scrambles to his left and delivers the ball to no one. The Rams then trail 3–0. The 49ers take the field at their 26 following the punt.

1:156 Purdy scurries to his left on third and goal from the 4 and finds Jennings for his second touchdown pass of the game. Purdy is playing so great, and Jennings is still playing better than the wildly overpaid Brandon Aiyuk.

Rams 0, 49ers 14.

QUARTER TWO

2:18 Javon Hargrave sacks Stafford on first and twenty from the Rams forty-five. A few plays later, the Rams punt. They really are terrible. The 49ers take over at their 20 after a punt.

2:15 Tre’Davius White intercepts Aiyuk’s pass to Brandon Aiyuk on third and 4 from the 49ers 40. Aiyuk just doesn’t appear swift. The Rams take the field at their 13 after the punt.

2:14 Running back Kyren Williams receives a touchdown ball from Stafford over the middle on a 2nd and 8 play from the 49ers 14, and he front flips over Talanoa Hufanga to enter the end zone. It was a scoring drive of 87 yards. Two timeouts and 1:52 remain, and the 49ers regain possession of the ball.

49ers 14, Rams 7.

2:44 With leg cramps, Trent Williams departs the game on first and ten from the 49ers 41. A few plays later, Byron Young sacks Colton McKivitz, stealing the ball from Purdy and allowing the Rams to recover.

2:47 On the opening play of the series, Maliek Collins sacks Stafford, and as the first half comes to a close, the Rams are out. The second half will begin with them receiving the ball.

QUARTERLY

3:04 Ji’Ayir Brown intercepts a ball intended for Colby Parkinson on third and five from midfield. The 49ers take the field at their 9 after the punt. Trent Williams has returned to action.

3:14 On third and five from the Rams 31, Jauan Jennings gets his third touchdown pass of the game after running an out-and-up. Without a doubt, he is the team’s best wide receiver. When they stop forcing the ball to Deebo Samuel all the time, the 49ers are so much more effective.

49ers 21, Rams 7.

3:28 Kyren Williams scores his second touchdown by slamming past Fred Warner on first and goal from the 2. On that drive, Isaac Yiadom was called for a 48-yard pass interference penalty, and Charvarius Ward had to leave the game due to an injury.

Rams 14, 49ers 21.

QUARTERLY REPORT

3:46 Mason gives up a yard on third and one from the Rams 7. The 49ers then take a 10-point lead after Jake Moody converts a 26-yard field goal. Jennings presently possesses

Rams 14, 49ers 24.

4:102 With 6:15 remaining, Stafford throws an out-of-bounds ball on third and goal from the 15, and the Rams respond with a field goal to trim the 49ers’ advantage to seven.

Rams 17, 49ers 24.

4:10 Purdy scrambles for three yards on third and eight from the Rams forty. The 49ers then prepare to try a 55-yard field goal by calling for their second timeout of the half.

4:11 Jake Moody misses the 55-yard attempt with a hook to the left. With 2:43 remaining, the Rams have the ball at their 45. They are allowed one timeout.

4:17 Tutu Atwell catches a 50-yard pass from Charvarius Ward on first and ten from the Rams 45. Kyren Williams gets his third touchdown of the game on the ground two plays later. One timeout and 1:51 remain for the 49ers. They are awash with time.

4:13. Purdy scrambles for two yards on third and ten from the 49ers 43, and the 49ers punt. After Xavier Smith returns a 37-yard punt, the Rams take over at midfield.

4:28 With two seconds remaining in the game, the Rams convert a field goal.
