During their game against the Houston Texans this week, the Kansas City Chiefs received some unfavorable news at a position in which they are lacking in depth.

Chiefs get bad news about key position where depth is lacking during Week 16 game vs. Texans

During the late stages of the first quarter of the Week 16 game, Chiefs linebacker Jack Cochrane sustained an injury as a result of a collision that occurred during the return of a kickoff. As the training personnel made their way out onto the field, they attended to Cochrane and examined his left ankle. As he made his way off the field and into the locker room, he exerted his own strength and walked on his own.

In the beginning, the team was uncertain about whether or not they would be able to get Cochrane back into the game against the Texans. However, they didn’t waste any time and took him out of the game during the second quarter.

At the same time as he is the best backup linebacker on the club, Cochrane is also an outstanding member of Dave Toub’s special teams unit. But the injury also presents some worrying linebacker depth issues for Kansas City, which will be most noticeable on special teams. He will be missed the most. He is the individual that Steve Spagnuolo has faith in to wear the green dot and to receive communications from the sideline while he is sitting on the bench.

Due to the fact that Leo Chenal was suffering from a sickness, his play in this game was uncertain. He’s hanging in there, but he’s not quite healthy. Cam Jones, who is in his second year with the Chiefs, is this team’s only other depth linebacker. In each of the last two weeks, the Chiefs have raised UDFA linebacker Swayze Bozeman off the practice squad.

However, this week, they elevated defensive end Deon Bush in addition to tight end Anthony Firkser. Earlier in the season, the organization made the decision to have six linebackers on the roster, with linebacker Cole Christiansen, who is currently on the practice squad, one of the active roster members.

Chenal, Nick Bolton, and Drue Tranquill are the three members of the Chiefs’ linebacker unit. Their hope is that they will be able to escape the game without suffering another blow to their linebacker unit.
