DEAL SEALED : Jets’ Aaron Rodgers officially accepts the $160.5 Million Contract offer from Raiders…

Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Khalil Mack is looking for another pay day, hence an old friend of the Las Vegas Raiders is getting ready to enter the free-agent market in the next weeks.

Why the Raiders Should Avoid a Khalil Mack Reunion

Though some are already wondering if the Raiders could pursue a reunion with the future Hall-of- Fame, Mack is generally regarded as one of the best defensive players that will be available next month.

After all, Las Vegas has plenty of cap money, and given just 38 sacks in 2024, it could surely use another pass rusher alongside of Maxx Crosby.

The hard truth of the matter, though, is Mack is quite not the solution for the Raiders. Not so much now.

Now 34 years old, Mack had clear symptoms of declining performance last season. Representing his lowest sack output since his debut campaign (unless you include 2021 when he totaled six sacks in seven games, but that shouldn’t really count), he ended with 39 tackles and six sacks.

Does Mack still play well? Yes, but he would be most suited on a team prepared to win the Super Bowl; not a rebuilding team like the Raiders that must allocate funds in all the proper spots.

Most believe the nine-time Pro Bowler will win a multi-year contract; he is likely to make somewhere between $20-25 million yearly this offseason (Pro Football Focus has him at $22.5 million). For Las Vegas, which must get younger, that is too much even if it is just two years.

Heck, some people really want the Raiders to explore selling the 27-year-old Crosby, so why would they chase a similar player who is seven years his older? It does not make much sense.

Mack was fantastic during his Silver and Black years; nostalgia is undoubtedly a strong feeling. During his four-year tenure with the Raiders, he made three trips to the Pro Bowl and received a pair of First-Team All-Pros. He won a Defensive Player of the Year award in Oakland in 2016.

Back then, Mack was a formidable player, but it’s becoming rather evident that the former first-round choice is fading.

Although pass rushers are absolutely needed in Las Vegas, Mack is not the ideal choice. Not in 2025.
