ESPN Reports: New York Mets displays courageous approach by taking risk to strenghten roster via a blockbuster trade worth….

Before spring training started, the New York Mets changed their roster somewhat; but, much of their success in 2025 could depend on a familiar face.

Securing Juan Soto on a historic $765 million contract, the team made the largest single action of any Major League Baseball club. But the squad doubts itself in the rotation with losses of starters Luis Severino and maybe Jose Quintana.

Spring Training Mets K from Clay Holmes

Their two most important starting additions are quite certain. Having been a reliever with the New York Yankees, Clay Holmes will be assuming a new position. Furthermore expected to miss important time following an unexpected injury before making his debut start is Frankie Montas.

Given the team’s high standards and dubious rotation quality, the comeback of front-runner Kodai Senga has become crucial. Senga signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the Mets and only made one start in 2024 due to injury; hence, a lot depends on his comeback in the 2025 campaign.

Following Senga’s highly watched live batting practice earlier this month, in which the pitcher touched 96 miles per hour and flashed a smile afterward, Mets manager Carloz Mendoza responded favorably, reported ESPN’s Jorge Castillo.

“That’s a good indicator,” Mendoza remarked.

The Mets apparently show little interest in augmenting their rotation with a major addition even after losing Montas for the beginning of the season. Currently, experienced Sean Manaea and Senga will lead the Mets’ rotation along with Holmes, David Peterson, Paul Blackburn, and Griffin Canning.

On its face, especially considering stacked against a competitor like the Los Angeles Dodgers, that does not look like a true World Series rotation. However, if Senga can go back to the All-Star form he displayed in 2023 or even build on it in his comeback from injury, maybe the pitching staff as assembled can surprise everyone.

“He only needs to be healthy,” Mendoza said on Senga. “As long as he is juggling the ball… We have some options, thus he feels like the staff ace rather than the hero. And those guys at the front end of the rotation appeal to us.
