During this offseason, the New York Mets have made it abundantly known that they are willing to make significant expenses. And no player will be able to fetch a higher salary than Juan Soto, a former slugger for the Yankees.

Mets Could Have Another Advantage in Juan Soto Sweepstakes

We are already aware that the Mets are one of the teams that are in the running for the Soto sweepstakes, but they are not the only team in the running. The Mets, the Boston Red Sox, the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are the five teams that are still believed to be interested in acquiring Soto because of his salary.

In spite of the fact that all of these clubs have demonstrated a willingness to pay exorbitant sums of money for Soto, as Randy Miller of NJ.com mentioned in an article published on December 2nd, some of them appear to be more willing than others.

“One person with knowledge of the discussions believes the Red Sox, Mets and Blue Jays all have made offers upwards of $600 million while the Yankees are in the $550 million range,” Miller stated in his article. “Soto’s first offer from the Mets was for $660 million, according to retired All-Star second baseman Carlos Baerga,” he went to explain.

“If that’s accurate, the Yankees probably have no shot at Soto because one of the people told NJ Advance Media that the Yankees expect the final offer to be under $600 million and the Yankees are prepared to move on if the price goes above $600 million.”

There is no way to know for certain whether Baerga’s assertion that the Mets had offered Soto $660 million is legitimate. However, it is reasonable to believe that the Mets made an offer of at least $600, which is an amount that appears to be greater than what the Yankees are willing to be willing to spend in order to keep Soto.

In the event that Soto’s ultimate selection is determined by the team that offers him the most salary, it would appear that the Mets have the Yankees beat.
