Eagles Sideline Drama: Jalen Hurts Has Heated Conversation With Head Coach Nick Sirianni As He’s Removed From……Read more
Eagles supporters are likely appreciative of Saquon Barkley this Thanksgiving, safe to say. Given what the running back accomplished, it is obvious.
Perhaps, though, there are some veteran offensive linemen or two out there who should be appreciative of the other New York import Mekhi Becton. If not, he is most definitely thanking the Eagles for their company.
On Wednesday, he was grinning at his locker next to Lane Johnson when a question was posed of Johnson regarding how much Becton had done to strengthen an offensive line with questions entering training camp.
For four years Becton played tackle in New York; he missed one while injured. He agreed to a guard change, and he has started ten games for Philly missing just one with an injury. “He’s got some long arms so it definitely helps,” Johnson remarked. “For his arm length at the guard position, I feel defenders are not accustomed to seeing that kind of length. So, dude, it has been enjoyable.
“I know he is having fun; I am simply trying to have fun too. And actually made the season pass quickly. You know, the more you can do; the guy he is to come in clearly intends to play some tackle, so the saying is the more you can do.’s expectation is not what I would find.”
Knowing he had become the subject of discussion, Becton’s ears tuned in. He was content. He feels content. That was not always the case with the Jets. When asked how tough things had gotten in New York, Becton took great care in what he stated.
“It’s difficult.” It’s just more difficult; I’m just looking for the correct words to express.I wonder guy, not sure. “It’s difficult to do something you grew up wanting to do and you grew up loving and like the support system surrounding you is just…it’s difficult.
I’m not sure. You show up and do your work, which is the best way I could phrase it. Everybody is simply on your ass all day and every day. Armed with only a one-year contract, he believed he would be happy again from the day he arrived in Philadelphia.
“First day I walked into this building, I can repeat it enough, they literally welcomed me with open arms,” he remarked. “I entered here. To meet the boys, Coach (Nick) Sirianni, just anyone, or Stout (line coach Jeff Stoutland). Day one was all love when I came to sign my contract.
Love has returned thanks in part to Becton Among NFL teams, the Eagles have second-most running yards. Barkley earns the credit, but one cannot ignore the hard and punishing approach of the offensive line. Neither Becton nor should I. Though his one-year contract ends at the end of the year, he knows he wants to stay here beyond this season; his future is still to be written.
“I try not to think ahead since I get quite anxious,” he remarked. “I’ll be just keeping my head ahead, have tunnel vision, and keep doing what I can.”
